step further. In 2022, Philips will step up its efforts and really try to please everyone. Equipped with Ambilight and HMDI 2.1, the OLED 707 series declares war on the competition.

But how does the OLED707 differ from last year’s Philips OLED706 series, and even from the older OLED807 series? Will every customer be really happy with such a versatile OLED TV? In the Philips 65OLED707/12 4K HDR TV review, we will discuss the main features of the TV, identify its strengths and weaknesses.

Philips OLED707 review

Design

For many, the Philips name is synonymous with stylish and modern design, and the Philips 65OLED707/12 TV is no exception. The frame around the screen is very thin, which means that the displayed content fits organically into the interior. The image completely captures you due to the lack of distractions. In this sense, we see complete identity with the OLED706 model .

<img loading="lazy" backlighting. This makes the TV not entirely suitable for wall mounting, as the underside will not be illuminated and the effect will be inferior. But it is all the more suitable for conventional shelf installation. The Ambilight LEDs do not illuminate the underside, so there should be no reflections on the surface of the furniture.

Another point of criticism can be found in the lack of facilities for cabling. This is where you have to be creative. Although we note that all the TV connectors are directed sideways and down. This makes it possible to press it more tightly against the wall when mounted on a VESA bracket.

<img quality

With a built-in 10-bit OLED panel that delivers superb picture quality on its own, the 65OLED707 has everything you’d expect from a high-end TV. On the one hand, there is perfect black display and theoretically infinite contrast, which can only be displayed in this way on OLED panels.

The 65OLED707 TV with this panel has a reduced brightness compared to an LCD TV to minimize the risk of burn-in. But it definitely gets bright enough to separate HDR content from SDR content and render it fantastic. This is also facilitated by the extremely good color space coverage that HDR content has.

It sometimes happens that good image quality is often washed out at wide viewing angles, but with the OLED707 TV, you don’t have to worry about this. Even with widely spaced seats or when watching TV in a large company, the image does not blur and retains its picture quality, again thanks to the OLED panel.

And thanks to the P5’s powerful 5th generation AI processor, it can also do some image processing that incorporates both HDR and the benefits of SDR content. When it comes to dynamic HDR formats, the 707 series has a wide range of choices. It supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ Adaptive, which adapts the brightness to the ambient light.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-10828 size-large" src="https://www.stereoreviewer.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/144_techweek.jpg" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" series, Philips didn’t want to miss any features. In addition to the Philips Anti-Burn-In software, which last year was reserved only for high-end OLED+ models, 2022 brings easier and more professional calibration with Calman Ready.

Motion and Game Processing

Philips 65 OLED707 panel with 120Hz refresh rate delivers lightning-fast on-screen motion processing. This will not go unnoticed by gamers and sports fans. Add to that a near-instantaneous response time (in the region of a millisecond) that eliminates motion blur. However, low response times also have a downside: low frame rate content can stutter.

But don’t worry, these stutters can be fixed with inter-frame interpolation. Of course, if you have no problems with the soap opera effect, which not everyone likes. On the other hand, jitter (judder) in the case of a non-multiple frame rate/refresh rate ratio (eg 24Hz and 60Hz) is not a problem since the Philips 65OLED707 can remove it from all sources.

The Philips OLED707’s excellent motion handling alone suggests that it’s also well suited as a gaming TV, and that’s to be expected. Because in addition to almost instantaneous response time, the TV also has low output latency, which means that commands from the joystick are immediately displayed directly on the screen.

Even the latest consoles are no problem for the OLED707 as it has two HDMI 2.1 interfaces, allowing you to play 4K games at 120fps. It also features VRR variable refresh rate, ALLM low latency auto mode, and even FreeSync Premium. A new Game Bar has been added for comfortable tracking of game parameters.

Smart TV

The OLED707 comes with Google’s latest Android TV, Android 11(R), not Google TV, but that doesn’t come with any real negatives either. The operating system runs smoothly and the user interface is clear, so you can operate your TV intuitively. If navigating with the remote control is too difficult for you, you can use the Google Assistant language assistant or turn to Amazon Alexa.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-10829 size-large" src="https://www.stereoreviewer.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/145_techweek.jpg" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" srcset="https://www.stereoreviewer.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/145_techweek.jpg 700w, alt="Characteristics of OLED707" width="700" height="277" />

The selection in the Google Play store is huge, so you have access to apps, games, and of course all the common streaming providers. Unfortunately, the 707 doesn’t have a dual tuner, but you can still use features such as snooze or USB recording. Apple Airplay 2 is unfortunately not available.

Sound quality

The sound of the OLED707 is, so to speak, “inherited” from last year’s model. However, this should not be taken as a disadvantage. The sound is not too bad and in particular the highs and mids are always extremely clear. Only here, too, is a recurring problem with flat-panel TV speakers: weak bass due to the compact design and distortion at high volumes.

That’s why many OLED707 buyers will probably not be satisfied with the average sound, and they will be drawn to a soundbar or hi-fi system. Sound can also be easily enhanced with an HDMI eARC connection. It allows you to use uncompressed Dolby Atmos in addition to DTS, which immerses the viewer more in what is happening on the screen: a cinematic atmosphere is guaranteed!

Connections

Switching capabilities are unchanged from 2021. There are four HDMI ports, two of which are HDMI 2.1. As noted above, there is support for eARC over HDMI. In addition to HDMI, there are 3 USB ports for media playback, one of which is version 3.0. There is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Conclusion

Phillips OLED707 performs well in all categories and is therefore recommended to anyone who is willing to pay that kind of money for it. With Ambilight as a unique advantage, HDMI 2.1 connections and the well-known picture quality of the OLED panel, the TV convinces in every way.

However, the Philips OLED707 is highly recommended if you decide not to wall mount as the 3-sided Ambilight does not work effectively on a wall. If you prefer wall mounting but don’t want to do without Ambilight, we recommend the Philips OLED807. It has 4-sided lighting and on the wall creates a great additional atmosphere.

Philips is known for its Ambilight TVs. But often it was necessary to compromise with gaming features. Philips OLED707 takes it one step further. In 2022, Philips will step up its efforts and really try to please everyone. Equipped with Ambilight and HMDI 2.1, the OLED 707 series declares war on the competition.
